Christmas at The Gaylord Rockies Resort
It’s the holiday season. The time of year that people gather to celebrate family and friends, that little kids are on their best behavior in hopes of “Santa” bringing them presents, that’s full of joy, lights and laughter. So where do families go if they want the Christmas vibe while on vacation? If you are ever in Denver, CO during the holidays, you must stay at the Gaylord Rockies Resort.
Stationed perfectly at the edge of Colorado's Front Range, Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center is a new hotel in Aurora that provides a sanctuary just minutes from Denver International Airport. The hotel features a rustic alpine charm along with well-appointed rooms and suites, plus we have more than 486,000 square feet of convention space.
We stayed at the Gaylord Rockies Resort during Carson’s Birthday weekend and he loved it. Being that Carson’s Birthday is the end of November, the hotel was already transformed into a Christmas Wonderland with a ton of indoor and outdoor activities for your family.
The rooms are very spacious compared to other hotel chains. The rooms have somewhat of a cabin rustic feel. The beds are very comfortable, the couch bed not so much but its still nice to have if you have extra guest. See my video below of the room tour.
Even though it was 20 degrees outside, we still were able to hit the pool. The hotel has both an indoor and out door pool. During the summer you can lounge in a tub and float through the out door lazy river. During the winter, your kids can stay warm inside the Arapahoe Springs Pool. They are able to ride the indoor water slides, play in the kiddie pool, jump at the splash pad, or swim in the big pool. The pool also has free lifejackets of all different sizes for you to use during your stay. There are also several life guards present for everyone’s safety.
The hotel has a few restaurants and bars as well as a convenient store to buy some snacks. There is also a few Starbucks to get your morning coffee fix. If you’re a sports fan, you must go to the Mountain Pass Restaurant and Bar. They have pool tables, games, and you can sit right in front of several movie theater screens showcasing all your favorite games. Its so big, it will feel like you are right there. Restaurants can get busy and have long wait times around this time of year.
The hotel has a state-of-the-art fitness center, spa, arcade room, convention center, meeting space and more.
The moment you see the Gaylord Rockies resort from a distance, it screams Christmas. Its covered in lights and its sure to make your kids excited for their stay. Walking into the lobby just puts you into Awe. There are several Christmas trees, fireplaces, Christmas lights, a rustic train for photo opportunities, fountain and more.
The resort has a Christmas Village where your kids can meet Santa, get a book read to them by Mrs. Claus, Build-A-Bear, Naughty or Nice Escape Room, Decorate Gingerbread and more. Some of these activities are at an additional price.
This year, the hotel added a Cirque Du Soleil Holiday Show and it was phenomenal!!!! Tickets start at $29.00. The show is full of colors, acrobats, music, stunts, extravagant costumes and more. Carson and his cousins danced, clapped, and watched in excitement all night.
Other Holiday Activities at an additional price include snow tubing ($17.99 for unlimited rides, ages 5 and up only), ice skating($15.99 unlimited), and Ice bumper cars($8.99 single ride, must be 5 and older), breakfast with Rudolph and more.
One of my favorite activities was walking through the Light Maze. The light maze is a free activity that all family members will enjoy.
Like all the Gaylord Hotels, this hotel has the ICE Activity. There is a huge tent outdoors that is kept at 9 degrees, filled with ice sculptures showcasing some of your favorite holiday characters. There is even a ice slide for your enjoyment. The theme this year was “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. You are provided a high-quality winter coat to keep you and your little one warm (they have ALL sizes). Children under 4 are free.
If you are looking to do something different for the holiday season, the Gaylord Rockies is a great choice.
